Principal Apps Engineer

As Principal Apps Engineer you will shape the mobile app strategy and lead technical conversations with engineers, product owners, and stakeholders. You’ll partner with the Head of Engineering to set technical direction, drive delivery, and help grow the team. You’ll oversee feature development, ensure quality, and support production releases in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. This role offers impact across Sun’s mobile experiences while aligning with News UK’s mission to inform and engage audiences.

• Set and guide technical direction within the team
• Maintain code quality and best practices
• Develop and support mobile features to meet business needs
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define requirements and tickets
• Assist in the release process for production deployments

• Expertise in native mobile development for iOS and/or Android (modern and legacy languages)
• Experience applying TDD/BDD to mobile apps
• Strong code review and mentorship capabilities
• Ability to communicate technical concepts to varied audiences
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
