Principal Architect - Cloud Native Platforms (Kubernetes)

In this role you will architect and drive the Kubernetes-based cloud platform at Akamai, embedded with the engineering team. You will build PoCs to guide technology decisions and influence the product direction with PMs and architects. You will shape the engineering roadmap, share knowledge, and mentor others in an Agile environment. This is a chance to work on a high-impact cloud-native platform that underpins Akamai’s cloud and edge products and services. You will help scale and secure our infrastructure while enabling rapid innovation.

• Own system design and implementation, aligning with the overall vision
• Build PoCs to inform design choices and technology recommendations
• Collaborate with product managers and product architects on direction

• 12+ years of relevant experience; background in Computer Science or related field
• Experience building and operating highly available, fault-tolerant, and scalable platforms
• Production experience with Kubernetes and Cloud-Native technologies (e.g., ArgoCD, Flux, Helm, Cilium, RKE2)
• Advanced knowledge of Kubernetes concepts: Operator/Controller patterns, Cluster API, multi-cluster
• Experience with containers and related tech (Docker, containerd)
• Strong skills in Linux, Go, Bash
• Familiar with CSI, CNI, Crossplane, load balancing, and service mesh frameworks
