Overview

In this Principal Backend Engineer role, you shape the backend and data foundation for OneSuite, Publicis Media’s unified marketing intelligence platform. You set technical direction for data products and platform integration, building production-grade Python services and guiding architecture decisions. You enable AI-assisted analyst workflows and secure, scalable data access across clients. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver a platform-powered, data-driven marketing solution with impact at scale.

Responsibilities
  • Own backend and data architecture across pipelines, connectors, platform APIs, and downstream surfaces
  • Define durable data contracts between warehouse outputs, operational stores, APIs, and user workflows
  • Lead evolution of Databricks medallion pipelines for analytics and product use cases
  • Improve data quality and governance including schema enforcement and lineage
  • Architect Python backend services on AWS serverless paths with tenant-scoped access
  • Shape exposure of capabilities through OneSuite (streams, permissions, contracts)
  • Set engineering standards (testing, CI/CD, observability) and mentor senior engineers through reviews and guidance
Key requirements
  • Senior backend, data platform, or distributed systems experience with principal-level ownership
  • Expert Python backend engineering (APIs, service boundaries, async systems)
  • Hands-on Databricks / PySpark experience and lakehouse/medallion architecture
  • Strong AWS serverless background (Lambda, API Gateway, S3, DynamoDB, IAM) with IaC (CloudFormation/SAM)
  • Deep understanding of multi-tenant SaaS design, authN/authZ, secrets management, and security
  • Experience designing stable data contracts and CLI/API/MCP contracts
  • Proven technical leadership through mentoring, architecture decisions, and code reviews
