Overview

In this role you will shape Co-op’s enterprise data architecture and guide data transformation efforts to unlock value across the business. You will lead as a senior data architect, partnering with engineering and business teams to deliver secure, scalable data solutions and to grow the capability of the data community. You’ll influence strategic programmes, coach others, and help define governance and platform strategy. This position offers hybrid working in Manchester with a strong impact on member and customer experiences through data-driven decisions.

Responsibilities
  • Shape and evolve enterprise-wide data architecture (conceptual, logical, physical models)
  • Define a data architecture operating model and AI enablement as strategic drivers
  • Provide architectural leadership across strategic programmes and complex data projects
  • Collaborate with engineering, platform, and solution architects to deliver secure, scalable data solutions
  • Coach and mentor data architects and specialists to grow capability
  • Influence data platform strategy, governance, and long-term investment decisions
  • Design data & AI platform solutions and contribute to low-level design
Key requirements
  • Experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale data architecture across data modelling, governance, integration, and strategy
  • Strong architectural judgement balancing business value, complexity, risk, cost and compliance
  • Practical MDM and metadata management experience, specifically with Databricks/Lakehouse platform
  • Experience providing technical leadership and influencing large programmes and diverse stakeholders
  • Collaborative approach with passion for coaching and developing others
  • Excellent relationship-building and communication skills; ability to translate concepts into practical guidance
