Principal Data Engineer - Active SC required

Overview

In this role you will design and run scalable, secure data platforms within a Secure Digital Platform environment. You will lead enterprise data pipelines and data products, ensuring quality, security, and compliance. You will mentor data engineering teams and champion DataOps/DevOps to improve deployment and reliability. You will collaborate across functions to translate data needs into robust solutions, including cloud migration efforts. This is a high-impact, long-term contract in a defence-focused program requiring active SC clearance.

Responsibilities
  • Design and maintain scalable, secure data architectures and platforms
  • Lead development of enterprise data pipelines, data integration frameworks, and data products
  • Establish and enforce data engineering standards and best practices
  • Implement DataOps and DevOps to boost deployment efficiency and reliability
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to capture data requirements and deliver solutions
  • Ensure data quality, lineage, security, and compliance across data assets
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and coaching to data engineering teams
  • Support cloud migration and modernization initiatives for data platforms and services
Key requirements
  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or related field
  • Experience in data engineering, software engineering, or data platform development
  • Proven design and implementation of enterprise-scale data solutions
  • Extensive experience with cloud data platforms (Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud)
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, Spark, and modern data processing frameworks
  • Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines and streaming data solutions
  • Practical experience with DataOps, DevOps, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code
  • Expertise in data modelling, data warehousing, and master data management
  • Strong understanding of data governance, metadata management, and data quality frameworks
