Principal Embedded Software Engineer I

In this role you will design and implement software for embedded devices powering CesiumAstro products, spanning from concept to production. You will work on Linux-based SBCs and high-reliability microcontroller systems, collaborating with hardware and software teams to deliver an out-of-the-box hardware/software experience. You’ll contribute to roadmaps, designs, testing, and in-orbit support, shaping software across the stack. This is an hands-on, cross-functional role with a clear impact on mission-critical aerospace platforms.
Responsibilities- Design and implement software for embedded devices from requirements to deployment
- Develop, test, debug, and document system software
- Review code and system designs
- Analyze code for efficiency, stability, and scalability
- Integrate and validate new product designs
- Support software quality assurance and optimize I/O performance
- Provide post-production/in-orbit customer support
- Interface with hardware design and development engineers
- Assess third-party and open-source software
- BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering
- 9+ years of software development experience
- Hands-on development and troubleshooting of embedded hardware
- API design for interfacing with FPGAs
- Experience with aerospace products
- C or C++ programming
- Embedded systems design with RTOS or real-time Linux desirable
- Familiarity with software configuration management and defect tracking tools
- Strong knowledge of real-time coding, IP protocols, interfaces, and hardware subsystems
- Strong multi-threaded programming and resource management skills
