Overview

As Principal Engineer at 9fin, you own cross‑cutting, high‑impact technical problems that impact multiple teams and the foundation of our platform. You set architectural standards, drive foundational decisions, and act as the senior technical voice across Analytics, AI, Platform, and Product Engineering. You will shape the data model, entity resolution, and scalable systems while mentoring senior engineers and influencing roadmap choices. This role combines deep technical work with cross‑org influence in a fast‑growing, data‑intensive environment.

Responsibilities
  • Own cross‑cutting problems and core data model / entity resolution foundational work
  • Make foundational architectural decisions and RFCs; be accountable for outcomes
  • Raise the bar across Analytics, AI, Platform, and Product Engineering; set engineering quality standards
  • Provide senior technical leadership in cross‑team planning, roadmaps, and build vs. buy decisions
  • Mentor and stretch senior engineers across the organization
Key requirements
  • Operate at principal or staff level in a data‑intensive, fast‑moving org
  • Credibly discuss data pipelines, RAG evaluation, API design, and system scalability
  • Own problems and be accountable for decisions and outcomes
  • Write code when it matters to unblock teams and set standards
  • Defend engineering principles without being attached to being right
  • Thrive on solving hard, ambiguous problems
  • Deep experience with complex data modelling, entity resolution, and data pipelines in production
  • Proven experience designing and shipping AI/LLM systems (RAG, extraction, evaluation)
  • Strong backend and distributed systems knowledge (APIs, scalability, observability)
  • Experience making foundational architectural decisions affecting the whole org
  • Proficiency in Python; comfort across the stack where needed
  • Nice to have: experience with financial data or semi‑structured datasets; founding engineer/early‑stage CTO background
  • Strong ownership and accountability
  • Ability to influence across teams without formal authority
  • Clear, principled communication and defense of engineering decisions
