Overview
In this role you lead technical delivery for bridge and structural maintenance and refurbishment projects, with emphasis on post-tensioned concrete bridges. You will guide designs, ensure standards compliance, and collaborate across disciplines within a multi-disciplinary team. You’ll balance quality, schedule, and budget while supporting site work and client interfaces. This role offers meaningful impact on heritage and modern infrastructure projects and a path to leadership within the team.
Responsibilities- Lead technical delivery of small to medium work packages (inspection, assessment, design, or renewal schemes) to programme and budget
- Provide technical direction, checking, and approval of designs, calculations, and reports
- Ensure compliance with standards, specifications, and governance processes
- Contribute to planning, risk management, and commercial awareness on projects
- Attend site on an ad-hoc basis to suit National Highways’ programme of PTSI during night or day time shifts
- Provide on-site supervision for PTSI activities ensuring compliance with CS 465 and witness and log events as necessary to maintain accurate records
- Production of PTSI Interpretative Reports
- Mentor and guide junior engineers; support capability within the team
- Act as a key interface with clients and internal disciplines
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent)
- Chartered Engineer (CEng MICE / MIStructE)
- Strong background in bridge/structures asset management, design and assessment
- Significant experience of post-tensioned concrete bridges and PTSI site supervision
- Proficient in relevant design codes, analysis methods and reporting, including National Highways procedures
- Demonstrable experience leading technical delivery of projects
- Effective communicator with ability to work across disciplines
