In this role you will lead electrical substation design efforts within Murphy Applied Engineering, delivering 3D HV layouts and technical specifications up to 400 kV. You will collaborate with the Engineering Manager HV Plant and cross-functional teams to produce design packages, support construction and commissioning, and drive best-practice in safety and quality. You will mentor junior engineers and CAD operators while contributing to tenders and innovative, cost-effective substations solutions. This is a hands-on, impact-driven position in a multi-site environment that values technical excellence and collaboration.

- Prepare 3D models of HV plant layouts for new builds and extensions up to 400 kV
- Draft technical specifications for electrical plant items (circuit breakers, disconnectors, earth switches, instrument transformers) for AIS and GIS
- Review OEM quotations and documentation for compliance and integration into designs
- Create client drawings (AutoCAD) for layouts, earthing, and interlocking schemes per technical specs
- Assemble Design Packages and perform pre-issue checks with Senior Engineers and CAD operators
- Provide technical support during construction and commissioning, including design modifications
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enable integrated substation designs
- Promote health, safety and environmental best practices with SHQE
- Supervise and mentor assistant engineers, apprentices, or CAD operators
- Support tenders with Senior Engineers and Engineering Managers to drive innovation and cost-effective solutions
- Develop construction methodologies and IV management plans to support tenders
- Familiarize with National Grid Specifications for potential TP137 Contractor Design Approval
- HV Electrical Plant layout designs experience (5–7 years)
- Knowledge of electrical plant principles and instrument transformers
- Understanding of protection and control interfaces for AIS and GIS substations
- Familiarity with National Grid technical specifications for substation design
- Proficiency in Revit, Navisworks (or equivalent 3D systems) and AutoCAD
