Principal Engineer

CERYN Engineering Ltd

Newport · Wales · United Kingdom

At a large consultancy, a Principal Engineer can spend more time managing process than doing engineering. At CERYN Engineering it’s the other way round.

We’re a growing civil & structural consultancy led by Chartered Directors who are still hands‑on, and we want someone to lead technical delivery alongside us and help shape what CERYN becomes next.

What you’ll do

  • Lead projects from inspection and assessment through to design and construction support
  • Work across rail, highways, bridges, buildings and temporary works
  • Deliver CAT I, II & III checks to Network Rail and DMRB standards
  • Work directly with clients, Network Rail, TfW and local authorities
  • Work with our CAD technicians to produce clear, construction‑ready drawings

The projects

  • Permanent works: design of new and replacement structures, repairs and strengthening of bridges, retaining walls, culverts and buildings
  • Temporary works: design of the temporary structures needed to build safely, from propping and support systems to access and working platforms
  • Working closely with contractors on site, turning designs into buildable solutions and bringing them to life through to completion

What we’re looking for

  • 8–10 years’ experience in inspections, assessments and design
  • Strong report writing and commercial awareness

What you get

  • Pension matched up to 5%
  • 25 days’ leave plus birthday and bank holidays
  • Professional subscriptions paid, plus Chartership and development support
  • 3 days in our Newport office, up to 2 from home

This isn’t a role in a big corporate. You’ll have real autonomy, technical variety and a genuine say in how the business grows.

Please share with anyone who might be interested.
