Murphy is recruiting for a Principal Engineer to work within our applied engineering division from our Warrington office.

Murphy are currently recruiting for a Principal Design Engineer to join our award-winning team. Our team is known for its extensive in-house expertise and continual drive to innovate within the industry. The Principal Design Engineer will provide safe, practical, and economic designs for internal clients to a high standard of professional competence and in compliance with Company procedures.

Murphy Applied Engineering is a multidisciplinary function, implementing the 'Better Engineered' strategic driver to achieve smart, safe, and constructible solutions with project timeframes. Covering a range of industry sectors including water, energy, and power; Murphy Applied Engineering provides specialist engineering support in the following disciplines: Mechanical, Geotechnical, Process, Surveying and both Permanent and Temporary works within Civil and Structural infrastructure.

A day in the life of a Murphy Principal Engineer:

• Responsibleforthedaytodaymanagementanddevelopmentofateamofengineers
• Responsibleforthedeliveryofalltechnicaldrawingsandreportsforthedetaileddesignphaseoflinearinfrastructureprojects(steeltransmissionpipelines&plasticductsforHVcables)
• Responsiblefordeliveryofconstructabilityreportsassociatedwithlinearinfrastructureprojects
• ResponsiblefordeliveryPre-FEEDandFEEDstudiesassociatedwithmajorpipeline/HVpowercableinfrastructureprojectsintheUK,
• TechnicalsupporttoplannersandestimatorsduringFEEDstudies
• Checkingandapprovingoftechnicaldesignreports
• Projectreportingandcoordinationofdesignactivitieswithintheengineeringteam
• Representthedesigndepartment,whennecessary,atinternalandexternalmeetings
• Undertakesitevisitswhenrequired,
• Accuraterecordingoftimespentonprojectsandmanagementofteamworkloads,
• Coachandmentorindividualstaffmemberswithprofessionaldevelopment,
• Supportthebidteamswithtechnicalinputintotendersubmissions&developdesignestimatesforinclusionintheoverallsubmission
• TechnicalinputintoTrenchlessCrossingDesigns(HDD’s,Microtunnels&AugerBores)

• DegreequalifiedinMechanicalorCivilEngineering
• CharteredwithaprofessionalinstitutionregulatedbytheEngineeringCouncil(orworkingtowardsChartership)
• FamiliarwithNationalGasstandardsfortransmissionpipelinesaswellasotherUK,EUandInternationalstandards(E.g.PD8010,BSEN14161,BSEN1594etc)
• FamiliarwithUKandinternationalstandardsforplasticpipes
• Construction&designexperienceassociatedwithlinearinfrastructureprojects&trenchlesscrossingdesigns
• ExperienceundertakingPre-FEED,FEED&detaileddesignassociatedwithmajorlinearinfrastructureprojectsintheUKaspartofthegovernmentsnetzerotargetsfor2050.
• Experienceofconsentrequirementsassociatedwithrail(NWRFormA,B&C),road(CD622)andwatercoursecrossings(EA)ispreferred
• Knowledgeandunderstandingofconstructionplant&equipmentusedtoinstallsteelpipelinesandplasticcableducts,
• FamiliarwithgeospatialanalysissoftwaresuchasArcGISorQGIS
• Excellenttechnicalreportwritingskills,
• SomeawarenessandunderstandingofenvironmentalrestrictionsintheUK.
