Overview
As a Combat Systems Engineer for External Communications, you will lead requirements capture, verification, and integration of external comms equipment for submarines. You’ll work with suppliers and customers to ensure compliance and effective system behavior within the platform. You will translate user needs and CONOPS into technical requirements, support installation and commissioning, and contribute to cross-functional delivery in a security-focused defence context. This role offers exposure to a tight-knit ECS team and opportunities to impact submarine capabilities.

- Capture and agree technical requirements per processes
- Review solutions for contractual compliance and regulations
- Create and control design documentation
- Capture and manage design change requirements
- Contribute to VCRI, ITEAP and Qualification Plans
- Interpret User Needs, CONOPS, and CONUSE to derive external comms requirements
- Ensure design proving evidence is in DOORS and endorsed
- Understand contractual performance requirements for external comms and support acceptance criteria
- Support flow-down of requirements to suppliers and verify deliverables
- Provide specialist technical support to shipbuilder installation, integration and commissioning
- Support integrated performance and acceptance activities from supplier equipment to system acceptance
- Knowledge of external (over the air) communications systems in the maritime defence domain
- Operational, build, trials or in-service experience with Combat System needs
