Principal Engineer - Support Engineering

Our client, a leading organisation within the defence and security sector, is seeking a Principal Engineer specialising in Support Engineering and Reliability Centred Maintenance. This contract role will support the development and delivery of reliable, maintainable engineering solutions across submarine-related programmes, with opportunities available in Barrow, Brough or Filton.

Key Responsibilities:

• Providing senior engineering expertise across Support Engineering and Reliability Centred Maintenance activities
• Developing and applying reliability, maintainability and supportability engineering principles
• Leading Reliability Centred Maintenance analysis and producing clear technical recommendations
• Supporting the identification of operational, maintenance and equipment reliability requirements
• Preparing and reviewing technical documentation, engineering reports and supportability evidence
• Working collaboratively with engineering, design, maintenance and project teams
• Contributing to risk assessments, technical reviews and continuous improvement activities
• Communicating complex engineering information clearly to internal and external stakeholders

Job Requirements:

• Significant experience working as a Principal Engineer or in a senior engineering position
• Strong knowledge of Support Engineering, Reliability Centred Maintenance and reliability engineering principles
• Experience within the defence, security, marine, submarine or other highly regulated engineering environment
• Understanding of maintainability, availability, lifecycle engineering and integrated logistics support
• Ability to analyse technical information and develop practical, evidence-based solutions
• Excellent technical report writing, communication and stakeholder management skills
• Strong problem-solving abilities with a methodical and detail-focused approach
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team

Contract Details:

• 12-month contract
• 37 hours per week
• Hybrid working, with two to three days per week on site
• Locations available in Barrow, Brough or Filton
• Inside IR35
