Principal Forward Deployed Engineer

In this hands-on engineering leadership role, you will lead and grow the Forward Deployed Engineering team within a firm-wide AI transformation. You set technical bar, own deliverables, and partner with business units to embed AI with impact. You’ll shape an AI technology roadmap and ensure solutions are secure, scalable, and governed. • Lead the team and own its deliverables, including line-management and performance
• Allocate people and effort across the demand pipeline and set expectations
• Maintain engineering bar through design and code reviews and develop engineers
• Report progress, risk, and capacity to Head of AI Technology and stakeholders
• Design, build, and productionise high-complexity AI solutions
• Own architecture decisions, ensure security, scalability, and alignment with core stack
• Guide AI technology roadmap with AI Technical Leadership Team and ensure alignment with enterprise architecture
• Evaluate models, tools, and vendors for feasibility, cost, security, and supportability
• Embed with business users and manage stakeholder relationships at senior level
• Build investment capability on Nexus and extend citizen developer workflows to production
• Expose data and capabilities via Accio and Nexus, creating reusable components
• Co-create enterprise core-stack deliverables with Percepta and AI Engineering
• Lead governance checkpoints and observability for deployed solutions

• Eight+ years in technical, business-facing engineering roles with seniority
• Experience leading engineers as line manager, tech lead, or founder
• Strong Python and SQL with production delivery experience
• Production experience with LLMs, including agent development and deployment at scale
• Experience building data pipelines from APIs and enterprise systems
• Knowledge of a major cloud (ideally Azure) with CI/CD, containers, and infrastructure as code
• Ability to own a technical roadmap and justify technology choices
• Excellent stakeholder skills and credibility with senior audiences
• Ability to operate in a regulated environment with governance and data sensitivity considerations
