Overview

In this role you drive design and improvement of control centre hardware for railway signaling, guiding hardware and firmware development, and leading obsolescence and documentation efforts. You’ll mentor teammates and collaborate with software, supply chain and component engineering to ensure on-time, fit-for-purpose delivery. The position focuses on robust hardware interfaces, verification, and enabling smooth technology migrations. This is a long-term, development-focused opportunity in a global rail leader.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop and implement digital hardware and firmware for railway signaling systems on bespoke and COTS platforms
  • Prepare hardware/firmware development plans and align with software interfaces
  • Interface with software teams and specify hardware/software interface requirements
  • Debugging, troubleshooting and producing technical documentation
  • Lead product obsolescence activities, board redesigns and firmware migrations
  • Support product approval, software integration and project delivery, ensuring fit-for-purpose solutions
  • Mentor and coach team members; manage work packages and deliver to budget
  • Document and migrate NPI documentation into a new PLM tool
Key requirements
  • Digital hardware and firmware knowledge
  • FPGA and CPLDs
  • RTOS
  • Intel processor familiarity
  • Carrier boards for SoM/CoM
  • Bus translation (PCIe to local buses)
  • Serial/parallel buses and protocols (UART, USB, SPI, I2C)
  • Working with requirements/test specifications and development plans
  • Design/review processes and version control
  • Schematic/datasheet reading, BSPs, PCB design and specification
  • Embedded software and operating systems understanding
  • DFM/DFT, V&V, test environments
