Overview

As Principal IT Systems Engineer at PIC, you lead technical authority across infrastructure, cloud, identity and platform services. You’ll shape resilient on-premises and cloud platforms, drive automation and IaC, and guide engineering standards while mentoring others. This role is a hands-on leadership position that escalates complex incidents and partners closely with the IT Operations and Engineering team to enable secure, scalable enterprise platforms. You will work to strengthen platform capabilities and support the business with reliable, automated solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Act as senior technical authority for infrastructure, cloud, identity and platform services
  • Provide technical leadership and deputise for the IT Systems Team Manager
  • Drive design, resilience and continuous improvement of on-premises and cloud platforms
  • Lead root cause analysis and resolution of major incidents
  • Influence engineering standards, architecture decisions and platform best practices
  • Develop automation, Infrastructure as Code and reusable platform capabilities
  • Provide technical oversight of third-party suppliers and solutions
  • Mentor engineers and promote secure, resilient, automation-first ways of working
Key requirements
  • Extensive experience in Infrastructure, Systems or Platform Engineering in a complex enterprise environment
  • Strong expertise in Azure and modern cloud technologies
  • Advanced automation and Infrastructure as Code skills (Terraform, PowerShell, Ansible)
  • Deep knowledge of Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID
  • Strong understanding of platform engineering, CI/CD and observability
  • Experience influencing technical direction and engineering standards
  • Broad infrastructure knowledge across Windows, Linux, networking and enterprise platforms
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
