Overview

In this Principal Product Architect role, you will shape global architectural frameworks for Mastercard’s payments and fraud prevention products. You’ll translate product needs into scalable designs, lead architecture assessments, and drive technology choices across Engineering, Product, and Data Science. You’ll ensure resilient services, optimize cost-to-value, and support regulatory and enterprise-wide initiatives. This position blends hands-on design with cross-functional leadership to elevate Mastercard’s product architecture on a global stage.

Responsibilities
  • Draft and socialize architectural designs with engineering, product, and data science peers
  • Define and maintain global API specifications and regional mappings
  • Lead architecture assessments for product evolution and technology choices
  • Oversee technology evaluations, software selections, and alignment with business goals
  • Collaborate across teams to support estimations and development processes
  • Design for resilience, performance, and reliability of services
  • Own delivery scope for design, development, testing, deployment and documentation
  • Run architecture reviews and drive enterprise-wide resolution of challenges
  • Engage in cross-team consultations to identify synergies and fill gaps
  • Actively participate in hiring and maintaining high engineering performance
Key requirements
  • Extensive experience with large data volumes and low-latency systems
  • Strong API design and OpenAPI familiarity
  • Knowledge of containers, orchestration, streaming platforms, and NoSQL stores
  • Proven DevOps practices and productionizing ML technologies
  • Domain expertise in payments, fraud, or money laundering
  • Ability to communicate with diverse stakeholders and senior leadership
  • Experience with architecture decisions across hybrid and cloud environments
  • Understanding of data protection regulations (PCI DSS, GDPR)
  • Ability to articulate complex architecture patterns to non-technical audiences
  • Experience with architecture frameworks such as TOGAF
