Principal Product Engineer

As a Principal Product Engineer at Tripadvisor Experiences Engineering, you bridge craft and product sense across mobile, web, and backend to ship impactful, end-to-end solutions. You lead design decisions, review architectures, and improve production reliability while collaborating with product, design, and data teams. You drive scale, performance, and operational maturity, shaping key initiatives in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

• Identify, scope, and ship changes that move business metrics across mobile, web, services, and data layers
• Architect long-lasting systems for production conditions including performance, reliability, scalability, offline behavior, and consistency
• Lead technical design reviews across teams weighing trade-offs in code, product impact, and operational cost
• Drive operational maturity in release management, observability, incident response, and performance monitoring (including mobile apps)
• Partner with PMs, designers, and engineering leaders to shape what to build and in what order; be a peer in conversations
• Set the technical bar by example: prototype, prove patterns, and teach them to others
• Communicate trade-offs clearly to engineers, product partners, and senior stakeholders

• 10+ years of software experience with hands-on coding and end-to-end shipping of product-impacting work
• Deep mobile expertise (iOS and/or Android; Swift and/or Kotlin; offline sync, push, auth, persistence, networking, REST/GraphQL)
• Breadth beyond mobile in at least one of web frontend, backend services, data/infra, or platform tooling
• Strong product judgment with ability to defend decisions with evidence
• Proficiency troubleshooting production issues across stacks (crash analysis, latency tracing, release-health)
