Overview

As a Principal Software Architect, you will define the technical vision for SPX’s evolving software ecosystem and align hardware, firmware, cloud, and applications toward a coherent, scalable architecture. You’ll lead architectural direction, governance, and strategy while validating ideas through prototyping. You’ll partner with domain leads and program managers to translate architecture into practical outcomes, balancing long-term direction with delivery realities. This role offers strategic impact across firmware, cloud, and applications in a global, innovation-driven environment.

Responsibilities
  • Define and evolve end-to-end architecture across firmware, cloud, and client apps
  • Establish and enforce system design principles, boundaries, and integration patterns
  • Define and maintain a coherent technology strategy and aligned tech stack
  • Drive architectural governance, standards, and decision processes
  • Assess current software landscape and propose transformation roadmaps
  • Provide cross-domain alignment and enable delivery through clarity
  • Prototype and validate architectural ideas using lightweight PoCs and AI-assisted tooling
  • Communicate architectural concepts effectively to executives, engineering leadership, and engineers
Key requirements
  • 15+ years of software engineering experience with significant architectural roles
  • Proven design of distributed systems across cloud and application layers
  • Strong experience with at least one major cloud platform (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
  • Experience integrating hardware or embedded systems with cloud-based platforms
  • Strong understanding of modern software architecture patterns and best practices
  • Ability to influence technical direction across multiple teams
  • Excellent communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences
