Principal Software Engineer

In this role you will provide hands-on technical leadership across the Client Lifecycle domain, shaping secure, scalable, and compliant systems. You’ll collaborate with engineering managers, architects and product teams to translate regulatory and business needs into practical architectures and incrementally deliver value. You stay close to delivery, mentor engineers, and drive high engineering quality while addressing complex production challenges. This is a senior IC role focused on cross-team impact in a regulated payments context.

• Provide technical leadership across the Client Lifecycle vertical, guiding design, evolution and operation of KYC, onboarding, accounts, operations and data systems
• Define engineering principles, architectural standards and reusable patterns for secure, scalable solutions
• Lead the design of distributed, event-driven, cloud-native architectures with careful trade-offs on consistency, resilience, security and operability
• Translate strategic and regulatory requirements into target architectures and incremental delivery plans with architects and teams
• Remain hands-on by prototyping complex solutions and contributing production-grade code where valuable
• Own technical quality of cross-team initiatives, including architecture reviews, production readiness and risk/ dependency identification
• Leverage data expertise to guide modelling, access patterns, data quality, lineage and performance across operational and analytical use cases
• Analyze data across platforms using SQL and tools like Databricks, Salesforce, DynamoDB, and reporting/warehouse solutions
• Collaborate with data/platform specialists to ensure reliable, governed data pipelines, warehouses and integrations
• Champion AWS-native design with serverless, messaging, storage, compute, IAM, observability and IaC
• Guide teams in building secure APIs and backend services for financial services and regulated journeys
• Review designs and code; provide constructive challenge to raise engineering quality without bottlenecks
• Mentor engineers and technical leaders to improve engineering judgement and standards
• Investigate complex production issues and drive durable improvements through root-cause analysis
• Communicate strategy, risks and trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership

• Minimum of 7 years of professional software engineering experience with senior technical leadership
• Bachelor-degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Finance or related field
• Strong distributed-systems and AWS expertise with relational and NoSQL data experience
• Expert-level experience designing distributed systems, microservices and event-driven architectures
• Proficient in AWS and cloud-native architectures, including serverless and infrastructure-as-code; CloudFormation desirable
• Experience building backend services in C#/.NET; ability to select appropriate tools for the estate
• Experience with asynchronous messaging and event streaming (EventBridge, SQS/SNS, Kafka, RabbitMQ)
• Deep understanding of databases, data modelling, SQL, performance, indexing and data access patterns
• Experience with data platforms/tools (Databricks, Salesforce SOQL, DynamoDB, Tableau, pipelines/warehouses)
• Ability to design reusable APIs, secure-by-default services, observability, resilience and maintainability
• Strong cloud security and risk-aware design in regulated environments
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills; ability to influence senior stakeholders
• Mentoring experience across multiple teams; track record of raising technical standards
• Experience in financial services, payments, banking or regulated industries; familiarity with KYC, onboarding, CRM, operations or compliance workflows
