Principal Software Engineer

As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Unify RO team, you shape the technical direction of a SaaS release orchestration platform. You will blend hands-on coding with architectural decision-making, collaborating with product managers and engineers to deliver value in weeks, not quarters. You’ll bridge the Unify RO product with CDRO Classic, ensure long-term code health, and help CloudBees’ teams ship faster and safer. This role blends deep backend work, customer conversations, and cross-team influence to drive impactful releases.

• Shape the future direction of Unify RO and assess architectural options
• Explain and sequence technical roadmap to ship value iteratively
• Tackle cross-team, high-impact problems with hands-on involvement
• Collaborate with engineers and product managers to improve decision-making
• Bridge Unify RO with CDRO Classic and other teams to drive adoption
• Improve code quality, testing, observability, and release discipline
• Document architectural decisions and rationale for future reuse
• Engage with customers to surface what matters and inform roadmap

• 10+ years of experience in complex, live systems with measurable improvement
• Hands-on backend depth with microservices on AWS, ideally in Go; strong in a comparable language and willing to deepen in Go
• Distributed-systems expertise (concurrency, event-driven, message buses) and production risk awareness
• Experience with AI coding agents (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) in tooling and governance contexts
• Ability to influence and earn agreement through technical credibility and thoughtful questioning
• Comfortable discussing technical trade-offs directly with customers and across teams
• Humor and a practical, impact-driven mindset
