Overview

As Principal Software Engineer in the eCommerce Platform Delivery team, you lead and shape technical strategy across multiple squads to deliver robust, secure, and scalable systems. You guide architecture and engineering standards, promoting continuous improvement and high performance. You work with product managers and architects to align technical decisions with business goals and drive customer-facing features. You stay ahead on trends to keep the platform resilient and future-ready.

Responsibilities
  • Own the Mission technical vision, strategy, and roadmap aligned with business objectives and platform standards
  • Accountable for technical delivery across multiple squads
  • Lead design, architecture, and development of scalable, reliable, high-performance systems
  • Champion data integrity and performance for scalability and resilience
  • Deliver key product features meeting performance, security, and scalability requirements
  • Ensure code quality across squads and lead code reviews
  • Use metrics to monitor performance and drive continuous team improvement
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and foster continuous learning
  • Stay informed on industry trends and apply insights to improve practices and capabilities
Key requirements
  • Ability to link technical strategy and architectural decisions to measurable outcomes
  • Deep knowledge of SQL, databases, data modelling, and performance optimisation
  • Proven expertise in cloud and commerce technologies, including AWS
  • Strong background in Microsoft technologies, including C# .NET
  • Extensive experience in observability and monitoring for reliability and performance
  • Expertise in data architecture and modelling, with legacy systems experience
  • Proven experience designing and implementing event-driven architectures (EDA)
  • Strong knowledge of infrastructure and networking for secure, high-performance distributed systems
  • Extensive software engineering leadership across cross-functional teams
  • Strong understanding of modern design patterns and architectures (APIs, EDA, microapps, front-end frameworks) in eCommerce
