Principal Software Engineer, Fullstack/Backend Technologies (UK Remote)

As Principal Software Engineer in Turnitin's Shared Services, you shape the core platform that powers multiple products. You will drive architecture, build scalable cloud-native backend services, and mentor engineers to uphold quality and security. You’ll partner with product and engineering leaders to solve large-scale challenges for millions of users, ensuring reliable and compliant solutions. • Lead design and development of shared backend services and platform capabilities
• Drive architectural decisions and technical strategy across multiple teams
• Build scalable, highly available cloud-native solutions using Java and AWS

• Significant experience building and operating large-scale backend systems
• Strong expertise in Java and modern cloud technologies
• Experience with AWS serverless services (Lambda, DynamoDB, API Gateway, SNS, SQS, EventBridge), Kubernetes, and cloud-native tech
• Experience with CI/CD tools and test automation
• Solid understanding of distributed systems, APIs, scalability, and software architecture
• Experience influencing technical direction and leading complex initiatives
• Excellent collaboration and communication within distributed teams
