Overview

In this role you will design, develop and implement advanced defence/space systems for nuclear environments. You will lead systems engineering efforts across the full delivery lifecycle, liaising with government and agencies to meet regulatory and performance standards. You’ll shape architecture, assess risks and drive robust verification and validation. This is a high-impact, cross-functional role at Framatome UK, contributing to secure, innovative solutions in defence and space.

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop defence/space system architectures using systems engineering approaches
  • Act as Engineering Manager across the full delivery lifecycle for complex nuclear/space projects
  • Manage engineering solutions with CAPEX from 0.5M to 200M+
  • Perform system-level analysis to ensure performance, reliability and safety
  • Test and evaluate system functionality under varied conditions
  • Identify and resolve defects, vulnerabilities and inefficiencies
  • Produce technical documentation for designs, test results and procedures
  • Stay updated with defence/space technology and standards
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and conduct user training as needed
  • Support procurement and ensure compatibility with architecture
  • Plan and guide system development and integration/test plans
  • Interact with Government/Agencies on technical considerations
  • Translate customer requirements into system solutions considering schedule and cost constraints
  • Conduct risk identification, gap assessment and mitigation planning
  • Oversee system verification, validation and testing
  • Provide engineering evidence for regulatory aspects using probabilistic/deterministic methods
  • Perform RCA including HAZID/HAZOPs and human factors
  • Coordinate through-life maintenance strategies and effectiveness
  • Mentor staff on subject matter expertise
Key requirements
  • 10+ years of proven experience as Engineering Manager, Systems Engineer or similar in a regulated nuclear environment
  • Experience in Nuclear/Defence System Design and standards
  • Strong knowledge of engineering delivery, system modeling, simulations and risk analysis
  • Experience in system verification, validation, and testing
  • Ability to interpret complex technical requirements
  • Proficiency with system/engineering tools
  • Engineering qualification such as BSc in engineering, computer science or relevant field
  • Willingness to obtain or transfer SC clearance; British Nationality required
