Overview

As a Professional Services Technical Architect at GitLab, you steer the technical direction of customer engagements from scoping to delivery. You design reference architectures for GitLab across self-managed and cloud environments and guide migrations using IaC, Terraform, and Ansible. You lead cross-team delivery with partners and customers, contribute reusable collateral, and share product updates to ensure consistent outcomes. You’ll work in a remote, asynchronous setting, mentoring others and aligning work with client needs and SOWs, while embracing GitLab’s AI-driven, value-driven culture.

Responsibilities
  • Design and deliver GitLab reference architectures for self-managed and cloud environments using infrastructure as code
  • Lead source code management and CI/CD migrations to GitLab, including large-scale enterprise moves using Congregate
  • Create repeatable delivery kits and enablement materials for teams and partners
  • Lead the full technical delivery lifecycle from scoping to handoff
  • Develop high- and low-level technical designs that meet customer requirements
  • Assess scalability and security considerations in proposed architectures and plans
  • Deploy and configure GitLab in on-premises and cloud environments using Terraform, Ansible, GET
  • Plan and execute migrations to GitLab with Congregate, collaborating with stakeholders to minimize risk
  • Provide DevOps/DevSecOps consulting and guidance, including internal frameworks like DGF and GitLab Flow
  • Coordinate and oversee cross-functional delivery teams and maintain clear asynchronous communication
  • Mentor teams by contributing docs, kits, and training materials and leading enablement sessions
  • Maintain and improve delivery automation assets with focus on code quality and testing
  • Support SOW creation, stay current on releases, and assist staffing with 55% billable utilization
  • Review training materials and develop case studies, designs, and best practices
  • Collaborate with customer project teams to articulate tasks clearly
Key requirements
  • Strong written and verbal communication for technical discussions and risk trade-offs in asynchronous settings
  • Experience delivering two or more consulting services (source code management migration, cloud architecture, DevOps engineering, or CI/CD)
  • Enterprise software development experience translating requirements into technical designs
  • Progressive DevOps platform experience with scalable, secure systems
  • Hands-on experience with cloud and on-prem infrastructure using Terraform and Ansible
  • Ability to write clean automation/integration code and validate changes via testing and code review
  • Migration experience to GitLab using Congregate or similar tooling
  • Knowledge of data consistency concepts (ACID) and migration design implications
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills with multiple priorities
  • Comfort working remotely with documented decisions to unblock work across time zones
  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
