Programmer in Automation (Automations Engineer)

PURPOSE: The Programmer in Automation (Automations Engineer) is responsible for designing, programming, configuring, and maintaining control systems that drive process automation across food industry production environments—specifically within yeast fermentation plants. This role works as part of an automation team and is instrumental in ensuring consistent, efficient, and safe operation of process control systems including PLCs, SCADA platforms, and Operator Interface Panels. As a key technical contributor, the programmer supports commissioning, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of automated systems while collaborating with engineers, plant teams, and integrators.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Programming & System Configuration

  • Program and configure PLCs using languages such as SFC, ladder logic, function blocks, and structured text.
  • Develop and maintain SCADA systems and graphic interface pages.
  • Configure Operator Interface Panels (e.g., Red Lion Controls G308) to optimize plant visibility and operator usability.
  • Design control sequences and logic that align with process engineering specifications.

Technical Documentation & Design

  • Create and maintain detailed control system documentation including electrical diagrams, P&IDs, sequence descriptions, and operational procedures.
  • Contribute to the evolution of internal programming standards and best practices.
  • Design robust control architectures for new installations or process upgrades.

Support, Troubleshooting & Collaboration

  • Provide on-site and remote support for automated systems across various plant sites.
  • Assist electricians and instrumentation technicians during system installation and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with process engineers, operators, and system integrators to align automation strategies with plant objectives.

Technical Leadership & Flexibility

  • Deliver timely support for process-related automation issues, including after-hours and weekend availability when necessary.
  • Participate in technical reviews and continuous improvement initiatives within the automation team
