Project & Deployment Engineer

SolarSub is a start-up on a mission to enable solar panels to thrive in the sun. The company has developed a patent-pending passive cooling technology to negate the impact of overheating on solar panel efficiency and lifespan, achieving a double-digit improvement in efficiency. Initially, we are deploying in the floating solar market, unlocking more favourable project economics.

The company has secured Pre-Seed investment and has generated interest amongst OEMs and end-users. The technology has been validated at the University of Edinburgh and has progressed through field testing. We are now preparing trials with strategic end-users and partners in Spain, Scotland and Singapore.

We are seeking a Project & Deployment Engineer to join our team and take ownership of our engineering projects and the planning and practical delivery of our trial and deployment projects. The role bridges technical engineering, project coordination and on-site execution, ensuring SolarSub's technology moves effectively from design and preparation into installation, commissioning and handover. This is an important hire, and we are seeking an individual who would relish the opportunity to execute in an entrepreneurial environment and grow in a leadership capacity.

The role will be based at the Salter Centre in Loanhead, Edinburgh, on a full-time basis, with regular in-person office and lab work and travel to trials in Spain, Scotland and Singapore.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver deployment projects end-to-end, from site assessment through installation, commissioning and handover in Spain, Scotland and Singapore.
• Own project plans, Gantt schedules, milestones, resources, budgets and critical paths.
• Lead site assessments and translate requirements into deployment designs using computer-aided design (CAD).
• Coordinate across Product & Performance, Systems Integration, Manufacturing, Coolant and V&V, keeping interfaces, deadlines and deployment requirements aligned.
• Manage project and deployment risks and dependencies, maintaining risk registers and mitigation plans.
• Coordinate customers, Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) contractors, suppliers and local stakeholders on requirements, site preparation, logistics, Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) and deployment documentation.
• Lead deployment and commissioning activities on site, including installation readiness, contractor coordination, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), defect identification and handover.

Ideal Candidate

• An engineering degree in mechanical, electrical, or another related field.
• A track record of delivering multidisciplinary engineering projects and field deployments, with hands-on engineering design experience and proficiency in CAD, from planning and site readiness through installation, commissioning and handover.
• Strong project-management capability across schedules, budgets, resources, critical paths, risks and dependencies, combined with the practical ability to coordinate contractors, EPCs, suppliers, customers and technical teams on site.
• Practical site and deployment experience, with a willingness to travel internationally and work hands-on where required; experience with solar, floating systems or multi-country deployments would be advantageous.

Compensation

Compensation will be commensurate with experience, with a base salary and participation in the employee share option plan.
