Python Backend Engineer

Position Overview We are looking for a
strong Python Backend Engineer
with hands-on experience designing and building scalable backend systems, microservices, APIs, and distributed applications.
This role is
not suited for a developer focused only on application coding . The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong
system design, backend architecture, problem-solving, and technical communication skills , along with the ability to work directly with client stakeholders.
You will design, develop, and maintain reliable backend services while collaborating with engineering and cross-functional teams to deliver scalable technology solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using
Python .
Design and implement
RESTful APIs
for frontend applications and third-party integrations.
Apply strong
system design and software architecture
principles to build scalable and maintainable solutions.
Design and develop
microservices and distributed systems .
Build and deploy
containerized applications using Docker .
Work with
MySQL
and relational database design, including performance optimization.
Implement asynchronous and event-driven communication using
RabbitMQ, Kafka, or similar messaging platforms .
Analyze technical requirements and translate them into effective backend solutions.
Participate in architectural and technical design discussions.
Write clean, maintainable, scalable, and testable code.
Troubleshoot complex production issues and optimize application performance.
Collaborate with frontend developers, architects, DevOps teams, and business stakeholders.
Participate in code reviews and promote engineering best practices.
Contribute to continuous improvement of development, deployment, and operational processes.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Strong hands-on experience with
Python backend development .
Strong understanding of
system design, software architecture, and distributed systems .
Proven experience designing and developing
microservices-based applications .
Strong experience building and consuming
RESTful APIs .
Hands-on experience with
Docker and containerized applications .
Strong knowledge of
MySQL and relational database concepts .
Experience with
RabbitMQ, Kafka, or other message-broker technologies .
Strong understanding of backend performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
Experience with
Git and modern software development practices .
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to explain technical solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Comfortable participating in
in-person client interviews and discussions .
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with
AWS, Azure, or GCP .
Experience with
CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices .
Knowledge of backend security and secure API development.
Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as
Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or similar .
Experience working in enterprise or financial services environments.
Canadian educational background is preferred but
not mandatory .
Work Arrangement
This is a
hybrid Toronto-based position .
Candidates must be able to work from the Toronto office
at least 3 days per week .
Candidates must be comfortable attending
in-person client interviews .
