Python/Front Office Software Engineer for Commodities UK

In this role you will lead and contribute to a high-impact agile team that builds trusted, scalable technology for base metals trading and commodities operations. You’ll collaborate with Trading, Quantitative Research, Sales, and Middle Office to deliver secure production code and drive top-quality risk, pricing, and trade capture solutions. You’ll guide design decisions, mentor engineers, and advocate best practices across the software development lifecycle. This position offers the chance to shape critical front-office systems in a global bank and grow technically and strategically.

• Collaborate with front-office, risk, and support teams to deliver quality code in a fast-paced environment
• Lead design, development, and delivery of applications for risk management, pricing, trade capture, and commodities operations
• Provide technical guidance to business teams, contractors, and vendors
• Develop secure, production-grade code and review peers’ work
• Influence product design and operational processes to improve capabilities
• Promote cross-functional collaboration with Core Technology and Business teams
• Contribute to firmwide SDLC frameworks, tools, and practices
• Advocate for cutting-edge technologies and foster an inclusive team culture

• Formal training or certification in software engineering and 5+ years of applied experience
• 2+ years of experience leading technologists in complex problems within your domain
• Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Math or equivalent training and experience
• Hands-on experience in system design, development, testing, and operational stability
• Experience delivering large-scale, performant systems in object-oriented or functional languages (e.g., Python, Java)
• Advanced knowledge of software applications and processes in at least one technical discipline (cloud, OOP, full-stack, quantitative finance)
• Ability to work independently on design and functionality with minimal oversight
• Strong understanding of end-to-end business processes
• Eagerness to learn and grow in both technical and business areas
• Previous software engineering team management experience
