QA & Automation Test Lead

In this role you will lead the Quality Assurance function within a financial services tech environment, steering the move from manual testing to an automation-first approach. You will manage and mentor a team of QA Engineers while staying hands-on with automation and testing activities. You’ll shape testing frameworks, embed quality into development workflows, and drive continuous improvement across engineering. This role offers the opportunity to apply AI-assisted testing ideas and collaborate with Product and Engineering to raise software quality at scale.
Responsibilities- Lead and mentor a team of QA Engineers, conduct regular reviews and development planning
- Define and own the QA strategy, testing standards and release criteria
- Ensure test coverage for new features and regression testing across domains
- Embed quality into Agile, CI/CD pipelines and development workflows
- Drive automated testing framework design and maintenance for functional, integration, API, end-to-end and non-functional testing
- Improve regression coverage and maintainability of automation suites
- Provide QA metrics, defect trend analysis and release readiness reporting
- Identify tooling, process and delivery improvements; lead continuous improvement initiatives
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Software Engineers and stakeholders to promote quality-first culture
- Explore AI-assisted testing opportunities and evaluate relevant tools
- Support hands-on testing when needed
- Proven experience leading a QA team
- Success in transitioning organisations from manual to automated testing
- Experience designing and maintaining automated test frameworks
- Experience defining QA strategies for complex software products
- Strong understanding of Agile methodologies
- Experience with API, integration, regression and end-to-end testing
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
- Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to balance quality, delivery timelines and commercial priorities
