Quality Test Engineer III

In this role you will lead automation-focused testing for APIs and backend services within Elsevier's Search and AI Platform. You will collaborate with software engineers and tech leads to ensure reliable, scalable services and embed quality throughout development. You’ll shape test strategies, contribute to incident reviews, and drive high-quality outcomes across the platform. • Design, implement, and maintain automated test suites for APIs and backend services using Karate, Cucumber with RestAssured
• Write clean, maintainable automated tests in Java for fast feedback
• Validate functional and non-functional behaviour of search and retrieval services, including error handling and reliability
• Contribute to contract testing and service-level testing across REST and GraphQL APIs
• Integrate automated tests within CI/CD pipelines across multiple stack levels
• Utilize observability tools such as New Relic for diagnosis and quality analysis
• Analyze problems and lead discussions with engineering teams
• Contribute to incident reviews and post-mortems to improve test coverage
• Collaborate with engineers early to shape acceptance criteria and surface edge cases

• Solid hands-on automation experience
• Strong API testing and/or contract testing experience
• Proficient in Java
• Hands-on with Karate, Cucumber with RestAssured
• CI/CD exposure and integrating tests at multiple stack levels
• Observability tooling experience (New Relic or similar)
• Ability to analyze problems and guide discussions
• Willingness to take ownership and drive quality improvements
