Overview

In this Rail Systems role, you contribute to delivering integrated rail systems across major UK projects, enabling safer, more efficient passenger experiences. You work within the Systems Engineering discipline to solve complex challenges with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders. The role focuses on lifecycle delivery, assurance, and continuous improvement on high-profile schemes like HS2 and TRU. You will help shape sustainable infrastructure that connects people and communities, while developing your expertise through varied projects. Responsibilities
  • Support rail systems design, integration, assurance, and engineering activities on major programmes.
  • Collaborate with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated rail solutions.
  • Coordinate and verify systems engineering requirements throughout project lifecycles.
  • Apply systems thinking to address complex technical and operational challenges.
  • Contribute to safety, reliability, performance, and operational readiness objectives.
  • Participate in systems integration, interface management and assurance activities.
  • Support development of innovative, sustainable engineering solutions.
  • Share knowledge and foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional development.
  • Build trusted client and partner relationships to support successful project outcomes.
  • Contribute to infrastructure that improves connectivity and passenger experience for communities.
Key requirements
  • Experience in rail systems engineering or related rail discipline.
  • Knowledge of rail systems areas (signalling, telecoms, E&P, traction power, SCADA, control systems, systems integration, systems assurance, or systems engineering).
  • Understanding of systems engineering principles and lifecycle delivery in complex programmes.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary project environments.
  • Ability to analyze technical challenges and propose practical solutions.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Commitment to collaboration, safety and continuous learning.
  • Professional qualifications, chartership or progress towards registration (welcomed but not essential).
