As Principal Rail Telecommunications Engineer, you will lead telecoms design, assurance, and delivery for major rail projects, guiding multidisciplinary teams to safe, standards-compliant solutions. You’ll shape telecoms systems (FTN/FTNx, fibre, IP networking, GSM-R, CCTV, PA, CIS, radio) and drive digital railway initiatives. You’ll mentor engineers, manage risks and interfaces, and engage clients and contractors to deliver lasting infrastructure impact. This is a strategic, hands-on role within a global team, offering opportunities to influence project delivery and technology choices.

- Lead telecoms design and engineering activities across the project lifecycle
- Provide technical assurance, design review, and engineering governance
- Support telecoms renewals, enhancements, and digital railway programmes
- Manage technical risks, interfaces, and system integration activities
- Mentor junior engineers and support professional development
- Engage with clients, contractors, and key stakeholders
- Degree, HNC, HND in Telecommunications, Electronic, Electrical, or related Engineering discipline
- Significant experience within rail telecommunications engineering
- Strong knowledge of FTN/FTNx, fibre optics, IP networking, GSM-R, CCTV, PA, CIS, and telecoms transmission systems
- Experience working within Network Rail or major rail infrastructure environments
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards professional registration is desirable
