Overview

As a Principal Rail Telecommunications Engineer at AECOM, you will lead telecoms design and delivery for major rail projects, ensuring safety, compliance and seamless integration across multidisciplinary teams. You will provide technical assurance, reviews and governance while guiding renewals and digital railway programs. The role includes managing technical risks, interfaces, and client engagement, while mentoring junior engineers. Responsibilities
  • Lead telecoms design and engineering activities across the project lifecycle
  • Provide technical assurance, design review, and engineering governance
  • Support telecoms renewals, enhancements, and digital railway programmes
  • Manage technical risks, interfaces, and system integration activities
  • Mentor junior engineers and support professional development
  • Engage with clients, contractors, and key stakeholders
Key requirements
  • Significant experience within rail telecommunications engineering
  • Strong knowledge of FTN/FTNx, fibre optics, IP networking, GSM-R, CCTV, PA, CIS, and telecoms transmission systems
  • Experience working within Network Rail or major rail infrastructure environments
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards professional registration is desirable
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
