R&D Test Engineer

In this role you will plan, execute, and continuously improve tests for R&D instruments and sub-systems, ensuring performance is understood and communicated to engineering teams. You will work hands-on with development instruments, collaborating with R&D engineers and technicians to diagnose issues and drive learning through experiments. You’ll run tests independently, capture data rigorously, and translate results into actionable feedback for design and systems teams. This is a hands-on, data-driven role at a leading metrology company with a strong emphasis on continuous improvement and safe practice.

• Plan and execute test activities on R&D instruments, modules, and assemblies including functional, performance, reliability, and verification testing
• Author, maintain, and follow test procedures to ensure repeatable, auditable results
• Build and validate test setups (fixtures, rigs, software tools, instrumentation) and manage calibration status
• Record, analyze, and interpret data with traceability from objectives to conclusions
• Communicate findings via reports and updates, highlighting risks and next actions
• Troubleshoot with engineers to identify root causes and feed learning into design/process updates
• Coordinate test schedules with instrument availability and project priorities; escalate blockers
• Drive continuous improvement in test efficiency, robustness, and knowledge capture
• Promote safe working and adherence to internal policies
