Overview

As Research Software Engineer, you will help build a modern web-based Data Repository for HS2 monitoring data, supporting uploading, accessing, and sharing sensor data. You will work with the Engineering team at City St George’s to deliver backend APIs, front-end interfaces, and robust data structures. You will translate research needs into reliable, secure software while meeting project milestones on a high-profile infrastructure program. This role offers the chance to shape long-term data legacy and contribute to practical, real-world engineering challenges.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop and document a web-based Data Repository with back-end services, APIs and front-end applications for monitoring data
  • Implement data ingestion, storage, and retrieval for time-series monitoring data
  • Collaborate with research team and HS2 stakeholders to translate data requirements into technical solutions
  • Define common data structures and ensure system reliability, security and good documentation
  • Deliver project milestones using Python and/or JavaScript, FastAPI, SQL, time-series databases, Docker and GitHub
