Secure Data Infrastructure (TRE) Manager, UK Data Archive

Lead the design and delivery of a next-generation, cloud-based Trusted Research Environment (TRE) for the UK Data Service, embedding AI and automated workflows while federating with national and international data ecosystems. You will align infrastructure with governance frameworks, engage extensively with UK and European TRE communities, and ensure security compliance and SATRE alignment. The role spans planning, delivery, and production launch across multiple years, working with diverse expert teams to enable impactful, policy-informed research.
Responsibilities- Design and build the new cloud-based TRE infrastructure
- coordinate cross-functional and cross-border engagement with UK/European partners
- align TRE with governance, security standards, and regulatory requirements (SATRE)
- plan and execute all phases of implementation (Year 1: discovery; Year 2: pilot data pipelines; Year 3: production launch)
- facilitate transition from on-prem Citrix desktop to federated cloud platform
- deliver AI-augmented workflows and long-term operational sustainability
- collaborate with information security, developers, AI/data engineers, user support, and checkers
- represent UKDS in national and international TRE community
- manage timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder expectations
- substantial and demonstrable project management experience
- ability to engage with technical and non-technical communities
