Position Title: Senior Accountant/Assistant Controller Salary & Benefits: $70,000-$90,000 (Benefits, pension, and vacation) Position Status: Current vacancy Location: Preston Street Work Model: ONSITE

The Corporate Accountant plays a critical role in maintaining accurate financial records and delivering high‑quality accounting support across a diverse group of property management, commercial real estate, residential real estate, and related operating entities. This position supports both the Corporate Accountant and the Executive Vice President through comprehensive financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, compliance administration, and operational analysis. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, multi‑entity environment.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Accounting & Reporting

  • Maintain complete and accurate accounting records for assigned corporations and related entities.
  • Prepare and post monthly journal entries.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies.
  • Complete monthly bank reconciliations and cash flow analyses.
  • Produce timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Support month‑end and year‑end closing processes.
  • Ensure financial records comply with Canadian accounting standards and internal policies.
  • Monitor and reconcile intercompany transactions.

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Assist in preparing annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Prepare periodic financial forecasts and variance analyses.
  • Analyze actual results against budgets and forecasts.
  • Provide recommendations to management on financial performance and cost control opportunities.

Audit & Year‑End Preparation

  • Coordinate year‑end working papers and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare audit files and liaise with external auditors.
  • Respond to auditor inquiries and assist in resolving audit issues.
  • Support annual corporate filings and financial statement disclosures.

Payroll & Compliance

  • Process or assist with payroll administration as required.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll legislation and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare and remit payroll deductions, source deductions, and related filings.
  • Ensure timely filing and remittance of HST/GST, payroll taxes, WSIB (where applicable), corporate tax instalments, and other government remittances.
  • Monitor compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate is a technically strong and detail‑oriented accounting professional with 2–5 years of progressive experience and a solid foundation in financial reporting, full‑cycle accounting, and multi‑entity management. You bring a degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field, with a CPA designation or active CPA enrollment considered a strong asset. You excel in budgeting, forecasting, payroll administration, and government compliance, and are comfortable working in fast‑paced environments with competing priorities. Advanced Excel skills, experience with accounting or property management systems—ideally Yardi—and strong communication, organization, and professional judgment round out their profile. Above all, they demonstrate analytical thinking, problem‑solving ability, confidentiality, and a collaborative approach.

Operational & Systems Support

  • Assist with implementing accounting policies and strengthening internal controls.
  • Participate in software upgrades, system conversions, and technology initiatives.
  • Recommend and implement procedural improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Develop and maintain accounting procedures and process documentation.
  • Support data integrity across accounting and property management systems.

Project Support

  • Provide financial analysis and administrative support for special projects.
  • Assist with acquisitions, financing activities, property‑related initiatives, and operational projects.
  • Participate in ad hoc reporting and strategic initiatives.

Executive & Management Support

  • Provide direct support to the Corporate Accountant on accounting, reporting, and financial management activities.
  • Support the Executive Vice President with financial and administrative tasks.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, analyses, and documentation for management meetings and decision‑making.
  • Respond to information requests from senior leadership in a timely and professional manner.

What Would Make You Stand Out:

  • Proven experience in commercial real estate, property management, construction, or public accounting experience is a huge asset.
  • Hands‑on expertise with Yardi or technology proficiency to adapt quickly to new systems.
  • Demonstrated success improving processes, strengthening controls, or supporting system upgrades.
  • Exceptional analytical skills with a track record of producing high‑quality financial insights for leadership.
