Senior AI Backend Engineer

Build AI underwriting systems with Python and backend expertise at nesto, in a remote-first role open across Canada. Shape production lending technology.

As a Senior Applied AI Engineer, you will lead major projects for Maestro, nesto’s AI underwriting and lending engine. Apply LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation, structured extraction, and strong API skills to production workflows. Your work will combine software engineering, data science, and model evaluation across the full lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead major features and projects from design through delivery
• Optimize agentic workflows combining rules, LLMs, and embedding search
• Build evaluation pipelines with golden sets and regression tracking
• Shape AI platform architecture through reviews and collaboration
• Mentor peers and support delivery timelines

Requirements:

• Five or more years of professional software development experience
• Strong Python, backend, and API development skills
• Hands-on production experience with LLMs and structured extraction
• Background in data science, data analysis, or statistics
• Experience leading projects or technical initiatives
