Senior AI Engineer - London

Salary: £65,000 - 75,000 per year

Requirements:

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of commercial experience in Backend Engineering, Data Engineering or Machine Learning Engineering.
• Expert-level Python development skills.
• Commercial experience with Machine Learning, NLP or AI platforms.
• Experience productionising machine learning models at scale.
• Strong experience designing RESTful APIs and microservices using frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask or Django.
• Experience working with SQL and relational databases, including performance optimisation.
• Experience designing cloud-native solutions within AWS and/or Azure.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and scalable architectures.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes and containerised deployments.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and Infrastructure as Code.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• A passion for mentoring and developing other engineers.

Responsibilities:

• Design, build and maintain scalable AI data pipelines and processing workflows.
• Develop cloud-native backend systems and scalable microservices.
• Partner closely with Data Scientists to productionise Machine Learning, NLP and Generative AI models.
• Build and optimise RESTful APIs for AI model serving.
• Monitor system reliability, model performance and observability across production environments.
• Drive best practices across CI/CD, automated testing, Infrastructure as Code and MLOps.
• Improve system integration and interoperability across enterprise platforms.
• Support internal and external consumers of AI services and APIs.
• Translate evolving business requirements into scalable engineering solutions.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership within the team.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and influence engineering standards.
