Overview

In this role you will lead the design and delivery of new features for Freetrade’s Android app, helping it scale and improve performance, security, and reliability. You’ll collaborate with design, product and QA to craft delightful user experiences and guide architectural decisions to reduce tech debt. You’ll own features end-to-end and drive engineering standards, while mentoring junior engineers. This is an opportunity to shape a modern mobile product at a fast-growing fintech with a strong mission to simplify investing.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and delivery of new features and maintain the Android app
  • Own features end-to-end with cross-functional teams (backend, design, product, QA)
  • Set and uphold code quality through reviews and testing
  • Resolve complex issues and reduce technical debt
  • Drive improvements in engineering standards and practices
  • Mentor and support junior engineers on best practices
  • Participate in a support rota to resolve customer issues
Key requirements
  • Typically 6+ years of experience building production-grade mobile applications
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to lead technical decisions
  • Deep understanding of Android architecture (MVVM or MVI)
  • Proficient in Kotlin, Dagger, Jetpack and Compose
  • Good understanding of GraphQL and backend integration
  • Experience with coroutines, Flow or Rx
  • Familiarity with Git and collaborative development practices
  • Understanding of CI and build tooling such as CircleCI
  • Experience mentoring and growing junior engineers
