Senior Application Engineer (Mission Critical)

As a Senior Application Engineer at Leonardo UK, you will support and enhance mission-critical applications within the Cyber & Security Solutions Division. You’ll work across engineering, service management and product teams to deliver secure, scalable platform solutions that underpin defence and public sector services. You will lead problem solving in agile, collaborative settings and mentor junior engineers to raise engineering standards. • Support, configure, and enhance the LeonardoMCX suite of applications in mission-critical environments
• Deliver engineering tasks within defined work packages aligned to user needs, security requirements, and SLOs
• Contribute to application architecture, configuration, integration, and lifecycle activities under guidance
• Collaborate with stakeholders across engineering, service management, and product teams to resolve technical issues
• Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives including automation, documentation, and knowledge sharing
• Ensure compliance with engineering governance, ITSM processes, and cyber security policies

• Solid experience in supporting, configuring, and enhancing enterprise or mission-critical applications
• Ability to resolve moderately complex application issues and contribute to secure, scalable solutions in high-availability settings
• Understanding of application lifecycle management, integration patterns, and secure-by-design principles
• Strong communication and collaboration across engineering, service management and product teams
• Proactive mindset with a passion for continuous improvement and knowledge sharing
• Mission-Critical Application Experience: hands-on experience with telecoms, public-safety, control room tools, or enterprise-grade software
• Application Lifecycle Knowledge: deployment, maintenance, upgrades, decommissioning
• Integration & Identity Management: familiarity with OpenID Connect and OAuth
• Secure-by-Design Principles: awareness of cyber security practices and secure configuration
• Service Management Alignment: understanding of ITIL or similar frameworks
• Technical Problem Solving: ability to resolve moderately complex issues and contribute to service improvement
