Overview

As Senior Age Assurance and Digital Identity Technology Advisor, you will provide expert guidance on how Age Assurance and Digital Identity technologies affect online safety and regulatory policy. You will work with the OS Tech Team and cross-functional partners to keep technical knowledge up to date and inform policy positions. You translate complex concepts into actionable recommendations for leaders, policy teams, and external stakeholders. You will shape regulatory thinking through research, horizon scanning, and external collaborations. This role offers the chance to influence safe, trusted online services at scale.

Responsibilities
  • Provide expert guidance on Age Assurance and Digital Identity to policy, supervision and enforcement teams
  • Advise on technical feasibility and risks of proposed regulatory interventions
  • Translate complex AA and Digital Identity concepts into actionable recommendations for senior leaders and stakeholders
  • Understand Ofcom guidance on Age Assurance and related areas (e.g., ICO Age Appropriate Design Code)
  • Lead research projects independently, including literature reviews and experimental studies
  • Explore emerging AA developments (e.g., decentralised ID, new products, trusted frameworks) and inform policy decisions
  • Support evaluation of AA implementations per Ofcom HEAA Guidance and Digital ID regulatory duties
  • Prepare and present technical briefings, white papers, and demos; host knowledge-sharing sessions
  • Represent Ofcom in external technical groups and conferences; collaborate to influence regulatory thinking
  • Monitor landscape to identify trends, risks, and opportunities; contribute thought leadership
  • Maintain relationships with academia, industry, and public bodies to strengthen partnerships
Key requirements
  • Practical or theoretical expertise in Age Assurance, Digital Identity, or related areas (e.g., Identity and Access Management)
  • Ability to research, understand, and explain these technologies
  • Ability to articulate regulatory implications of technology
  • Experience in a technical advisory role in a regulatory context (desirable)
  • Strong ability to translate technical concepts into clear insights for varied audiences
  • Ability to work across multi-disciplinary teams and map requirements to technical specs
  • Strong interpersonal skills and stakeholder influencing capabilities
  • Strategic horizon-scanning to align decisions with long-term goals
  • Articulating ideas for non-technical audiences
