Overview

As an Avionic Systems Engineer at Vertical Aerospace, you will lead the design, integration and certification of the aircraft’s COMM/NAV/ Surveillance and Maintenance systems for our eVTOL platform. You will work within the Vehicle Systems team to deliver certifiable avionics solutions and drive end-to-end traceability from requirements to verification. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers to accelerate certification and integration. This is a fast-paced role at a scaling SME with a mission to set new safety standards in electric aviation.

Responsibilities
  • Lead avionics design and integration of COM/NAV/Surveillance and maintenance systems for the aircraft
  • Develop requirements, interface control documents, test procedures and reports
  • Oversee test plan development, commissioning and troubleshooting activities
  • Capture engineering specifications in the modelling and requirements environment with end-to-end traceability
  • Coordinate system integration with interdisciplinary teams and suppliers
  • Lead work packages within the Vehicle Systems team and ensure hardware/software delivery and verification
  • Stay current with technology and integrate new solutions into designs
  • Lead ground and system integration tests with flight test teams to deliver certifiable solutions
Key requirements
  • 8+ years of avionics systems engineering experience
  • Proven experience in airborne systems design, integration, verification and certification
  • Strong knowledge of COM/NAV/Surveillance and maintenance systems
  • Familiarity with ARP4761, ARP4754 and DO-160
  • Experience with avionics standards and protocols (ARINC 429, CAN, RS-422, ARINC 664)
  • Proficiency with systems engineering tools and methodologies
  • Knowledge of aviation regulations (FAA, EASA) related to avionics
  • Experience with PLM systems (3DX preferred)
  • Experience with system modelling tools (MATLAB System Composer preferred)
  • Experience with requirements management tools (JAMA preferred)
