Senior Azure Data Engineer - Managed Services

In this role you drive data engineering within Hippo’s Managed Services, delivering secure, scalable data platforms and hands-on engineering for client projects. You’ll lead and mentor within a cross-functional team, ensuring reliable data solutions and operational excellence. You will work with clients and internal stakeholders to translate data problems into robust, automated pipelines and improvements. This is a growth-focused senior position with hands-on impact and opportunities to shape data practices at scale.

• Provide technical leadership and hands-on data engineering within the Managed Services team
• Support and enhance data solutions built on Microsoft Fabric, SQL, Azure Data Factory, and SSIS
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve data pipeline issues across client environments
• Design and implement robust CI/CD practices for data workflows and deployments
• Lead performance tuning, data optimization, and platform reliability improvements
• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate data issues into actionable tasks
• Maintain strong client relationships with reliability, trust, and value delivery
• Share best practices and mentor junior data engineers
• Champion continuous improvement in development, testing, and deployment

• Production data pipelines and platform experience
• Strong knowledge of T-SQL and SQL Server with performance tuning/optimisation
• Python scripting for automation
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric and Azure Data Factory (pipeline orchestration, linked services, environment management, parameterisation)
• Experience with SSIS for ETL and legacy data integration
• CI/CD pipelines with Azure DevOps
• Infrastructure as Code (Bicep, Terraform, or ARM templates)
• Familiarity with Power BI, Synapse Analytics, or other Microsoft data tools
• Experience working in Agile (Scrum/Kanban) and Test-Driven Development environments
• Strong communication and ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Experience managing multiple client environments for stability and performance
