Senior Back End Engineer - Customer Operations Platform

Overview

In this role you will own end-to-end projects within the Customer Operations Platform, shaping how ops teams work through tailored flows and automation. You will collaborate closely with Operations and other stakeholders to translate needs into robust, scalable backend and frontend solutions. You’ll use AI and ML to automate tasks and improve reliability of communications, contributing to iwoca’s mission to move faster for SMEs. This position offers impact across multiple systems as the business scales and processes become more automated.

Responsibilities
  • Lead complex projects spanning CRM, telephony, contact and task management systems
  • Develop a deep understanding of ops workflows to inform architecture and requirements
  • Perform detailed scoping and prototyping to assess feasibility before roadmapping
  • Tackle challenging coding and architecture problems with ambiguity
  • Produce technical documents and developer tickets translating product needs into actionable work
  • Build relationships with Operations Strategy, Credit Analysts, Account Managers, and Collections teams
  • Mentor junior developers and promote a learning culture
  • Share new technologies and best practices within the team and company
Key requirements
  • Experience building and owning shared backend services used by multiple engineering teams
  • Familiarity with frontend tech (React, TypeScript) and browser debugging
  • Experience designing distributed systems in complex business domains
  • Ability to translate operational needs into technical architecture
  • Strong capability with AI tools to automate routine tasks and enable deeper architecture decisions
  • Active use of AI tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor) in daily workflow
