Senior Back End Software Engineer

In this role, you will help build and maintain the backend of the Alta Video Management System, a cloud-based platform for video security and analytics. You’ll contribute to scalable distributed systems that manage cameras, access control, and sensors, working with an agile, collaborative team focused on quality and security. The work supports real-time security insights to protect people and assets. This is a hybrid Edinburgh-based position with opportunities to shape core backend capabilities and tooling.

• Develop and maintain the backend ecosystem for the Alta Video Management System
• Analyze, design, and implement features for cloud-based distributed systems
• Scale capabilities and improve performance and capacity
• Maintain CI/CD pipelines and customer deployments
• Collaborate in an autonomous, agile team with emphasis on quality and security

• Experience as a software developer
• Experience building backend for large cloud-based distributed systems
• Proficiency in at least one backend language (Go, C++, Java, Rust or Python)
• Willingness to learn new languages (Go is default but others are used)
• Strong technical ability and commitment to high-quality code
• Enthusiasm for an R&D oriented environment
• Bonus: understanding of SOA and cloud-based products
