Senior Backend Developer

Location: London, EC1M 6PB

Contract: 6 Month Contract

Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week

Hybrid: 1 day per week onsite in London

Join a dynamic energy provider dedicated to delivering sustainable solutions across the UK. We are looking for an enthusiastic and resourceful Senior Backend Developer who is passionate about building exceptional products and developing robust, scalable solutions.

This is an initial 6-month contract, with potential for extension. The role is full-time, 37 hours per week, with one day per week onsite in London.

Accountabilities

• Play a pivotal role within the backend engineering team, helping to build cloud-based applications.


• Develop backend solutions using Python and AWS Cloud services.


• Adopt a serverless-first approach to application design.


• Collaborate within an Agile team alongside other backend engineers and product designers.


• Strategise, develop, test and deploy new features and experiments.


• Participate in collaborative coding practices, including pair programming and code reviews.


• Contribute to resolving the complexities inherent in large‑scale systems and extensive datasets.


• Work closely with Product, Data, Front‑end, Platform and Security teams.


• Help drive continuous improvement across development practices and technical solutions.

Knowledge and Skills

• Demonstrable experience working as a Senior Backend Developer.


• Strong commercial experience with Python as a primary development language.


• Hands‑on experience developing RESTful APIs and/or GraphQL.


• Experience with AWS Cloud services.


• Experience with serverless architecture and technologies.


• Strong knowledge of Git and version control.


• Good understanding of software development best practices, including TDD, pair programming and code reviews.


• Strong software design, problem‑solving and debugging skills.


• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.


• A willingness to engage with emerging technologies and contribute to solution design from inception.


• A passion for continuous improvement and learning from colleagues and peers.
