Overview

In this role you will shape and maintain a critical backend service for Teya’s merchants across Europe. You will work within a small, autonomous team to raise engineering standards and mentor others. You’ll own features end-to-end, from design to deployment, while ensuring scalability, performance and reliability. The position blends hands-on development with collaboration across product, design, data science, security and operations, all in a fast-paced fintech context.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop and maintain backend services that are secure, scalable and well-tested
  • Own features across the full software delivery lifecycle (scope, design, test, deploy, maintain)
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine requirements and contribute to architecture discussions
  • Build tools and integrate systems to improve operational efficiency and scalability
  • Drive CI/CD improvements and maintain a smooth development pipeline
  • Participate in code reviews and promote high-quality output
  • Mentor and support other engineers
  • Stay updated on software engineering, payments and fintech trends to identify improvements
  • Assist in troubleshooting complex system issues to ensure uninterrupted service
  • Promote best practices in code quality, testing, automation and security
  • Serve as SME and provide guidance to other teams
Key requirements
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Strong backend experience with Java 17+ and Spring Boot
  • Proven ability to design, build and operate reliable production services
  • Experience with system design, scalable architectures, microservices and API development
  • Strong understanding of databases, data structures, performance trade-offs and distributed systems
  • Practical experience with Kafka and event-driven systems
  • Focus on monitoring, observability, testing and operational ownership
  • Ability to work autonomously and make sound technical decisions
  • Clear communication and ability to influence technical direction
  • Collaborative mindset and willingness to mentor others
  • Experience in Agile or Scrum environments
