Senior Backend Engineer

As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Structured Credit team, you will design and ship backend services that power 9fin’s CLO product and a new vertical. You’ll lead systems design, build APIs and data processing features, and mentor peers in a cross-functional setting. The role emphasizes ownership, measurable impact, and collaboration with product and clients. You’ll work across diverse financial data platforms, ML/AI services, and automation efforts to deliver scalable, high-value workflows.

• Lead systems design and implement new service functionality (APIs, data processing, automation) within cross-functional teams
• Develop backend services and web tools for the 9fin platform, focusing on performance and reliability
• Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and contribute to early research and feature definition
• Improve and document codebase through refactoring and automation while maximizing impact
• Collaborate with financial, legal, and editorial teams to ensure high-quality information and feedback
• Contribute to developer experience via preview environments, feature flags, and non-production environments

• Senior IC experience with systems design and infrastructure discussions
• Strong ability to plan and communicate software purpose and business impact
• Hands-on data flow design from storage to API endpoints with validation best practices
• Proficiency in Python and web frameworks (FastAPI, with typing & Pydantic)
• Experience delivering APIs and service-oriented architecture
• Strong SQL knowledge for data retrieval
